Around 8 pm on July 21, 2016
I had a heart attack. Three days later
I had open heart surgery.
The artery that was 90% blocked
Is known as “The Widowmaker”.
However, my wife is not a widow.
The surgery is known as “cabbage”.
However, no vegetables were used.
CABG is an acronym for coronary artery bypass graft.
If you google it, you’ll get a lot of hits.
A life altering event.
I find myself with deep feelings churning.
I want to put them down in black and white.
But I am emotional like an adolescent girl.
I start blubbering just thinking about
The doctors, nurses, therapists, neighbors,
Family and friends who have shown
Such kindness and love towards me.
I am fortunate to have wonderful friends.
Of course, I wonder if I am worthy of their love.
But as Johnny Mathis says, “It’s not for me to say”.
I’ve been granted a life extension.
I want to let these people know that I appreciate
The love that they have shown to me and Carol.
So I tried to write a poem.
Love,
Gary Allen Rainsbarger
